26. June 2011 | Official commissioning of the SBR treatment plant Helmstadt - Holzkirchhausen
More than 500 citizens of the medieval town of Helmstadt came to the grand opening of the water treatment plant after a three year renewal phase.

After the speech of Mayor Edgar Martin, the plant was blessed by Pastoral Zoeller and officially placed in operation.

The excellent water quality at the end of the wastewater treatment process was pointed out by an official of the Water Agency Aschaffenburg.

The company KUHN GmbH conducted a significant share of the project with an order volume of more than 1.1 million €. The complete technical equipment including the electrical measuring and control technology as well as the heat pump system with over 500 meter brine pipe into the basins were made by KUHN.
During the guided tours through the facilities, many of the visitors were surprised about the cleanliness of the processes in a wastewater treatment plant.

The following technical equipment was supplied by KUHN:

Mechanical Engineering:
• A new grit washing system KUHN KSW-T / RW in the screening chamber
• The complete pipeline technology with many manual and electrical slide valves, ball taps and valves
• The equipment of the new SBR plant
(MID-bay,  Auxiliary circulation shaft, SBR1-3, drainage manhole, outlet storage, throttle slide valve shaft)
• The technical equipment of the old plant
(Feed storage, mud rack cell, sludge liquor pit, sludge liquor storage, sludge storage)
• 12 pumps for water and sewage sludge

• The new polymer feedstation with flakes reactor
• The centrifuge plant for sludge
• The crane on the roof of the new company building

Electrical measurement, control and regulation technology:
• The new switching system consisting of 21 cabinets, produced by KUHN.
(Low-voltage main distribution, switchboards SBR, biology, process control, control engineering, metrology,
Building distribution, UPS and connection to the old system)
• The Subdivision Control Units o.g. machines (including stainless steel pillars)
• The cable laying systems and wiring for all the above Machinery
• The complete electrical installation (lighting, emergency lighting, electrical outlets, fans)
• The intermediate floor and the air conditioner of the switching room
• The UPS (uninterruptible power supply)
• The measurement is originate from KUHN:
(Level measurements (ultrasonic, pressure), MIDs (magnetic inductive flow measurement), temperature measurements,
pH measurements, measurements of oxygen, turbiditymetry, pressure and flow monitoring, flood reports, Samplers, voltage monitoring)
• The furniture in the control room
• The computer, networking, process control, telemetry and fiber optic technology (hardware and software)
• The PLC technology including touch panel (hardware and software)
• The large-screen visualization
• The telephone equipment (PBX, gate openers and door intercom)
• The grounding, surge protection and lightning protection system
• Also integrated were aggregates and reports from the stock in the new system

The commissioning work and the trial run was carried out by specialists of KUHN.
The wastewater treatment plant was in operation during the entire modification period.

May 2011 | Dedication waterworks Rastatt-Ottersdorf

On 08th April was officially upgraded waterworks Otterndorf commissioned. The water plant is operated by the star.Energiewerken (the utility company Stadtwerke Rastatt) and ensures the future for the entire city for available, high quality drinking water with a hardness of only 10 ° dH (previously approximately 18 ° dH). This were to include two 10-meter rapid softening fluidized bed reactors, and mounted a limewater dosing system. By special devices and process innovations according to the newly defined "Rastätter procedure" an affordable, effective and reliable working decarbonization installation new addition to the existing water plant was built.

The company KUHN won a contract to replace the entire existing electrical equipment to transform and bring on the present state of the art. Also had all new wiring and system components are integrated with the controller. The total order of 550,000 EUR as well, the redesign of the control room, the construction of several new substations, the complete renewal of lighting and intrusion detection system and the programming and implementation of a comprehensive process control and documentation system included (each including commissioning). All this necessarily is running and almost uninterrupted operation of the old plant, which made the interim use of multiple temporaries required. Not only because of high technical standards, but also due to be complied completion dates, this order is a special challenge for the KUHN company. Weeks were therefore to work to 8 of our installers and commissioning engineers with great dedication and commitment to the system. As it has been confirmed, however, both from the engineering firm Alwin Eppler, Dornstetten, and by the client on the day of the official start like that KUHN Ltd. has mastered this task with bravery.

November 2010 | heat recovery for waste water treatment plant Holzkirchhausen

Just now, in the cold season, the company staff of sewage arrangements appreciates well heated company rooms and social rooms. Also the possibility to be able to take a hot shower after dirty and cold outside applications is more than only one hygienic necessity. Customary heating systems and fossil fuels are usually used for the heating and hot-water preparation to sewage arrangements. This raises the company expenses and the CO2 output. At best it is burnt if a decayed tower exists even generated gas or the rejected heat of a total energy unit is used.

Besides, big energy amounts flow day by day absolutely unnoticed into every sewage arrangement and, after flow of the process, also again unused out. By application of heat exchangers and a warm pump can be taken from the sewage more than enough energy to cover the complete warm need for heating and hot water of a sewage arrangement. Because of the big quantity of water the slightest temperature differences on the primary side to be managed preliminary heat temperatures on the secondary side already lead. Such a system has installed KUHN in the course of this year on the modern SBR arrangement in Holzkirchhausen and with it has moved the planning of the office SAG. Now, in winter, it shows his efficiency.

Already after establishment of the shell were moved in the end of 2009 approx. 540 m of brine management in 3 washbasins and then were poured in in the profile concrete. This year the warm production was also installed in the course of the equipment of the sewage arrangement. Here appeared once more the efficiency and flexibility of KUHN. By our scope of business  “house technology” we had not only good contacts with the suitable suppliers, here the famous company Stiebel-Eltron, but also all experts necessary for the conversion in own house.

From the consultation of the project manager about the choice of the suitable components up to assembly and introduction of the whole arrangement: the specialists who supply, otherwise houses, schools and barracks with trendsetting heating technology have used here her skill for a modern sewage arrangement.

November 2010 | City Wertheim – water works "Aalbachtal"

Already in summer 2010 one of the largest individual orders of the year 2010 was acquired. After a merciless competition we were able to decide this project for us with an order size of 2,46 Mio €.

Without delay the plan of execution had to be started, because unfortunately an unmerciful time pressure determines the action.

A team, led by one of the most experienced project managers, consisting of specialists for construction, electrical engineering, control engineering as well as mechanical and installation engineering, was now able to complete the plan of execution of the major project in due time through presentation of the project planning.

Latest three-dimensional construction design via Autodesk „Inventor“ 2011 helps specialists to keep survey over tricky challenges as well.

With this project several process steps were combined for the processing of the “most precious food of all”.

Ultra-filtration modules made in Germany for elimination of particulate turbidity, as well as for disinfection of the water (for the understanding: the pores of the membranous modules are so fine, that no germs can pass) take care of crystal clear water.

Multiple active carbon filtration-reactors make sure that no carbon hydrides contaminate the water. Hereby foresight is beared, in case a traffic accident should ever occur in the water protection area with oil in the area of the new motorway section. Of course also aplenty of pumps, armatures and pipelines – nearly exclusively in high-grade steel - are required for the spreading of the water.

At this point we will report on further progress about this project in due course.

October 2010 | water supply Osterburken in the Neckar-Odenwald – central softening plant Talbrunnen

With the ceremonious introduction of the central softening plant in the "Talbrunnen" of the city of Osterburken found a very demanding project a successful end.

„ High tech “ to the use of the population was moved with this project to the most full contentment of the customer by the company KUHN. We were responsible for the machines-technical and control-technical equipment.

In several procedure steps the water of the valley well is processed to a drinking water of the highest goodness. A protective filtration and prefiltration of the raw water provides for the fact that microfine suspended matter particle or sandy granule from the raw water are removed. With the following Nanofiltration are took away from the water hard producer and lime. This, nevertheless, only so much that a "softer" water originates with diminished lime salary.

Today to me to the "Nanofiltration" exists first the possibility to remove relaxed materials as for example calcium carbonate with a mechanical filtration procedure from the drinking water. Earlier these materials had to be removed chemically engagedly. Many private individuals pursued her own partial softening for the protection of her pipelines and improvement of the extremely hard water from the mussel lime grounds of the Neckar-Odenwald.

However, now this is also in Osterburken a past.

Other procedure technology - like acid neutralization and disinfection - follow the softening step. Then the water is interstored for the consumption and is distributed by means of high-pressure pumps in the whole net of the city of Osterburken. Modern technology must be steered and be regulated meeting demand. The software and control specialists of the company KUHN breathed to the arrangement her intelligent "life". Today modern operation management with process leading system and touchscreen technology are a technical standard which counts worldwide to the highest ones. To the company staff it is enabled to supervise from the headquarters of the " water supply Bauland “ or on Internet also from home, the arrangement.
